“I am overwhelmed by the love of the faithful and the clergy of this Archdiocese.”
His Eminence Metropolitan Antonios, Patriarchal Vicar, met with more clergy and laity in the area of Houston, Texas from Dec. 21-23, 2023. He conveyed the blessings and best wishes of His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East.
Sayidna Antonios began this visit at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church of Houston by presiding at Vespers on Dec. 21 and celebrating the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy on Dec. 22, the feast day of St. Anastasia the Great-martyr, known for her healing power over poisons.
“There is nothing more poisonous than sin,” His Eminence preached. “We pray to God through the intercessions of St. Anastasia – whose name means ‘resurrection’ – will take us out of our death and raise us from our own sins that cause spiritual death in our hearts, so that the Lord by His grace will give us all the peace and all the joy, and His divine, eternal love.”
At St. George Church, His Eminence met with the laity and answered their questions about the special convention to help select the next Metropolitan.
On Dec. 22, Sayidna Antonios toured The Saint Constantine School, led by its president, Dr. John Mark Reynolds. He also met with the Houston clergy for lunch and a discussion.
That night, His Eminence presided at Vespers at St. Joseph Orthodox Church in Houston. The next morning, Dec. 23, he presided at the Great (Royal) Hours for Christmas at St. Anthony Orthodox Christian Church – Spring, TX.
“Everywhere I go, I believe that you have this love to the Lord, this love to His Church, and this commitment to be fixed in His Church, seeking to do His will always,” Sayidna Antonios said.
